why can't I go anywhere on the net? I'm using an external modem, and
can dial up and connect. I'm guessing a file/ setting needs tweaked?

This might be a dumb question but, is your browser working ONLINE?
A client of mine (one windows) couldnt connect. They were working
offline. Hit the button some how.

did you setup you network? Like giving the modem an ip
address. You can set it so dhcp does it automatically. Go to
System--admin- networking and see if there is a networking wiith the
modem..
