Downgrade - Issues with Firefox

Date: Dec 25    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 389

Alright, I've gotten my system set up with Ubuntu 7.10 (had to reinstall
for a new mobo and I felt 8.04 was too buggy). Since the reinstall
everything's been fine except for Firefox - none of my extensions work.
At all. I've tried uninstalling them, only to always be prompted with a
"This extension will be removed when Firefox is restarted" - even after
restarting my entire system multiple times. I've tried upgrading to
Firefox 3 again, but this didn't solve anything - still, none of my
extensions work, and I can't remove any of them.

I've tried removing Firefox through apt with the "purge" argument
attached, followed by a reinstall, but I'm still left with a bunch of
extensions that won't work and that I can't uninstall.

Any suggestions?

Do not remove FF from Ubie. It is tied to the kernel and you may crash your
system.

It's not tied to the kernel that I could see. It did require me to
remove Ubuntu's help documentation when I removed it, but I was able to
reinstall everything and get to where it was before I uninstalled it
(IE, extensions still refuse to do anything).

Go the your home folder. Find the hidden folder .mozilla. You need to have View|
Show hidden Files checked in Nautilus to do this. Then look for Firefox and open
that folder. Then find your user folder. It will have a bunch of alphanumerics
followed by .default. Mine looks like this: w9x9og1.default. Open it and look
for the folder Extensions. Open it and delete all of the extensions. You may
have more than one user folder if you have installed and de-installed Firefox.
You can delete them all.

Then try re-installing the extensions that you want. There is no need to install
Firefox. Just deleting the extensions should work. If this fails delete all of
your Firefox folder in the .mozilla folder. It will give you a fresh start.
