copied workbooks & links

I would be greatful to anyone who can tell me if I copy a workbook
created by someone else into my file for easier access to use & link
data into a new workbook...will the copied workbook update if the
creator updates their original?

I have a feeling I know the answer, just wishful thinking!

The answer, as you suspected, is "NO".

You would need to link to the file  that is being changed if you wanted to
achieve this.

If the file is set up to allow sharing you can have it open in your instance
of excel at the same time as the owner. Then you can link to it. Your view
of the file updates  periodically when the owner changes it.

No, not if you are copying a file.
