which version of Ubuntu are you trying to set up?
Are you wanting to use the default Gnome desktop or use the KDE desktop?
If you dont know then go with Gnome.

And you need to know if you are going to wipe out your Windows setup or
duel boot (meaning run both Windows and Ubuntu).
