Where did my 'virtual terminals' go?

How about Alt F1.. Thats what it is on my Suse box, and Ctl Alt F7 is my X
session and Ctl Alt F8 is a second X session if I start it up



My ubuntu machine is down right now, playing with different dist's, and when
I stuffed the drive in my spare comp the video was different and no X..
