How to increase /var partition

Date: Nov 24    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 937

I had recently set up FreeBSD on a P3-500, 10GB hd. Unfortunately I did not partition enough space for my /var and my mail and queue keep filling up the section.

I can add another drive in to the system, but am unsure what process to follow to get the drive partitioned and the current mount points to expand into the new drive.

I have 4 mount points:
/dev/ad0s1a 99183 30521 60728 33% /
/dev/ad0s1f 9077299 801979 7549137 10% /usr
/dev/ad0s1e 19815 2734 15496 15% /var
procfs 4 4 0 100% /proc

the procfs seems to be maxed (do I need to do anything about that)?

I would like to have the mount points exapnd into the new drive as necessary.

Can someone please give me the steps to make this happen.
1. Install HD
2. boot, OS should detect as "ad1s1"? is that correct it will be an IDE Slave

what happens next?

I started looking at ccd and vinum but not sure this is what I need. Can someone help me lay it out.

Not sure about FreeBSD but on Linux, all you need to do is
format the new partition, mount it at a tmp position, move
the files over, edit the fstab to tell it look at <new device>
for /var, reboot. For file systems that grow automatically
not sure on that one.

And proc will always be 100%, you can not change it.
