I use VLC Media player. But it didn't play store bought DVD's. I understand
there is a propriety problem and one needs to tweak VLC to be able to play
commercial DVD's. However, this time around I loaded the Ubuntu Super OS or
as it is called Super OS. I understand that it is Ubuntu 9.04 with all the
tweaks etc. already done for us newbies.
I know it is kind of cheating, having all the little things taken care of.
But everything worked right from the get go. Without having to track fixes
down.
The sound didn't play, but that was easy to fix by going to the sound icon,
opening up volume control, and finding where the sound had been turned all
the way down.
I still can't get both headphone jacks to work at the same time (Dell
inspiron 1525). I got them both to work, but only when headphones plugged in
to one and then unplugged and plugged into the other. When headphones are
plugged into one, the other one mutes. Which defeats the whole reason for 2
headphone jacks. But still, it works much better than when I downloaded 9.04
by itself.
The next big crash of XP and I am putting Super OS on my double screen
system. Then I have to find out how to get two screens working at the same
time. Which is supposed to be fixed now.
All in all, I am much happier and more confident that I am not going to do
something that kills my OS and have to call Darth MicroVadersoft to be
talked to in a language I don't understand, and pay for it.
