Date: Feb 15    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 420

I finally upgraded to 11.04 and changed to the "Classic" but my "Start"
menu is at the top and would like to move it ...I have googled, right
clicked everywhere and cannot figure out how to get the properties..

Any ideas?

Ubuntu 12.04 is the same, unless Ubuntu Tweak can help? I went to Lubuntu and
Kubuntu instead. In Synaptic add search in MetaPackages, but I'll let others
advise further...

First off 11.04 has expired. Not a good place to be if you need to make
changes as the repositories are not available. I would suggest that you
install a newer version. I do not think that you can even upgrade at this
point. The second point is that the Classic desktop is no longer supported.
It was meant to be a transitional desktop. The choices now are Unity, GNOME
Shell and Cinnamon or Mate via PPA. T

It is pointless to tell you how to do what you want because you will likely
run into problems and get yourself into a problem that you cannot fix. I
suggest that you backup and go for fresh installation, probably of the LTS
which has five years of support, 12.04.

I had put off upgrading...as a loyal user of ubuntu for 7 yrs now...
"hate" the I-pad type desktop. And "had" to ugrade to 11.04 . .Too bad
ubuntu cannot still offer the option of the classic. as from what am
reading it is not real popular....

Thanks anyway...... I was not really asking about the upgrade....but
just asking about moving the menu

I think you just grab it with your mouse pointer/left click and move
it to where you want it.
That being said if you do that and want to improve your 11.04 how
do you plan to do that? Roy's point is that 11.04 isn't supported
anymore. If you download 12.04 ISO and do a fresh install then you
have an LTS which is support for 5 years.
But it is your machine and you have to decide how to use it.

"no amount of clicking will move .it"
.....I will just go back to googling and see what I find

You would probably like Cinnamon. You could have a look by trying a LiveCD of
Mint 13.

Well, that has the menu at the bottom by default, but then so does KDE,
XFCE and Mate. It is good to have choice. The first thing to do is download
some ISOs and test what suits you and works best with your hardware.
