Looking for "best" webcam for skype

Date: Dec 12    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 597

I am looking to set up skype for some classes and am looking for a good
recommendation for a webcam that works well with subunit... Hopefully
nothing too expensive but would like good quality and a built in mic
I have gone to this link https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SkypeWebCams but the
list is a bit overwhelming for shopping

But would love to hear experiences and personal recommendation as this
is very new to me!
I use ubuntu 8:10

Logitech's are good, and inexpensive if you
use Ebay or Craigslist.

The STX is really good on Ubu/Skype, but is a
close-up pic versus taking in the whole room
(those with higher native rez). I have a
Communicate Deluxe too, but it defaults with
the Right-Light on and no way to turn it off.
That means I have to turn on bright lights
to keep the RL from slowing down the frame rate.

The STX version I got is the modern of the 2
you'll find out there. It has the roundish
lens, gray and black, not all black.

Generally, you should stick with something that
has a "sensor" of VGA/640x480 or higher, stay away
from the Cif 320/240 ones or it'll be choppy and in
slow motion.
