Installing on flashdisk

I wish to install Ubuntu on a Medion "Akoya" E1312 11.6" Notebook which is said
to be acceptable to Ubuntu but does not have a CD drive. Using my desktop
computer I created a boot disk and successfully booted up Ubuntu 9.04.

Using the "Administration", "USB startup creator" and "Make startup disk"
commands I made a bootable flash drive on a 2Gb drive formatted to Flash32. I
tested the bootable flash drive on the desk top and it booted up and loaded
Ubuntu - no problems.

I then booted the notebook using the flash disk. Ubuntu started loading OK then
stopped with an error message starting with "4.368021 ata3: soft reset failed
(device not ready) modprobe: FATAL could not load/lib/modules/2.6.28-11-
generic/modules.dep: no such file or directory."

I have repeated this with three flash memories, one of 1 Gb and 2 of 2 Gb with
the same results.

My question is "What am I doing wrong?"

I also have Medion "Akoya" but not sure if it the same model as yours. My
question is, how did you change it to boot
from the USB drive? I looked in the BIOS and couldn't see where to change it
for that. Maybe my unit doesn't have
that option. I know my desk PC doesn't seem to have that. I too would like
to have that option so I can use it from the
USB drive. I do however have the CD but it runs real slow with the live disk
booted, I may just have to keep trying it
with the CD, if I was sure how to do it I would maybe like to do a dual boot
laptop.

That all sounds reasonable. However, I do it quite differently. I use
remastersys with the "dist" option to create an ISO with all my programs in it,
then I use unetbootin to create the USB. Both programs are available in
Synaptic.
