Epson LX300 printer driver

ubuntu 7.10 & 8.04

I spent sometime today trying to get my Epson LX300 working and
noticed a couple of posts earlier today of folk who had had trouble.
As one of the most common dot matrix printers it seemed odd that the
developers hadn't included drivers. One suggestion was using IbmproII.

Like its LQ sisters (or brothers!) it is ESC/P technology but unlike
LQ570 the LX ones don't seem to be listed apart from the LX1050. When
you look for it go to Generic and then scroll back up (for some reason
it automatically scrolls down). It is called ESC/P DOT MATRIX
[System~>Administration~>Printing~>New printer~>LPD/LPR Printer~>Generic]

I use a sheet feeder on mine and that is not catered for. Works fine
for those with tractor paper BUT for a sheet feeder or single manual
feed the positioning leaves you with a large top margin. So once again
one might as well dual boot until this one is solved!
