I'm sure this have been previously covered, but I'm unable to locate the
thread at this time. As much as I hate to say it, after about 18 months
happily "cold turkey" from MS on my personal machine, I need to setup a dual
boot box. Whatever our preferences, we all know MS will be the predominant
consumer desktop OS for the near term. I need to keep both sets of skills
current for others I need to support - and maybe have an extra source of income
in this economy through consulting.
Anyway - I have a box with 2.2 ghz AMDx2 64, 4gb RAM, 1tb HDD, nVidia PCI-e
graphics w/128mb. Looking for guidelines to setup a dual boot from scratch -
Vista Ultimate 64 and Jackalope 32 (unless there is more Firefox plugin
compatibility with 64-bit than previous versions - in which case I may go Jack
64). Ubuntu will continue to be my primary workspace. Figuring an MS system
partition, Ubuntu system partition, swap partition, and a MS/nix shared data
partition. Will copy/restore my current Ubuntu home folder to new shared
storage - any guidance or "gotchas" in that process? Did I miss anything?
What partition format(s), sizing, and order of installation is recommended
for this type of setup? Will my graphics card suffice?
Alternatively - I possibly could keep Jackalope as single OS, and use
something like Parallels Workstation to run Vista in a virtual machine. Has
anyone on the list tried that, and what are your observations if so?
