Dell Printers...

Date: Dec 13    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 381

I seem to keep getting a CUPS failure which doesn't show up
in /var/log/messages...this is the one failure that keeps my windows
partition alive, so people, help me eradicate the evil empire once and
for all... The Printer is a Dell AIO 946.

Games...I have a PS2 for that, with the money I save not buying Windows
7, I'll be able to afford a PS3.

I searched both Ubuntu forums and LinuxQuestions and it seems that your printer
is not supported, Dell is of no help whatsoever, there may not be Linux drivers
because it does not support PJL and there are no detection signatures. Most
people with your problem went out and bought a new printer rather than succumb
to switching to Windows.

According to the Linux Foundation, who makes the kernel, this printer is a
"paperweight".

Check the "/var/log/cups/error.log" and other access and archive files in
the "/var/log/cups" directory.

Really that printer is lexmark make. Since Dell went the dark side of linux.
Synaptic may provide the drivers you require.
