finally got a " clean" copy of Ubuntu ( using Infrared recorder) on
my dell Dimensions 2400 w / Sammsung cd/r RW sw248fr602

Trying to install for Dual Boot XP / Ubuntu PC

All goes well until it says " canot detect monitor ( or some such
and displays a graphics menu

( running Dell M70 Monitor on Diamond S9250 PCI 256 DDR )

- at which point, even if I check the right monitor,
or check low graphics

the install hangs..

on item :
" running local boot script /etc/rc.local "

Checked the CD, all checked out ok

I have a perfect disc that was mailed to me from Ubuntu, direct. It
probably has the driver you need for your system. If you come this way, you can
use it.

I sent away for the discs a while back; so they should arrive
sometime soon.

- is there a place on line that would have the drivers;

some kind of generic driver for the Diamond S9250 PCI 256 DDR ?

How much ram is in the machine, are you overlapping the ram and video?

Can you install a regular vga driver and finish the install, then go back and
tweek the install to fit your hardware??

Yes, thats probably the key; thought of that last night.

it's currently set to 32 bit true color,
and 1024 X 768 resolution.

If I back it down to 800 X 600 ( Lowest t will go)
and 16 bit color ( also the lowest the board will go)
might it work then ?
