I'm running 7.10. When I click on Open Office, I get the splash screen whichdisappears and then nothing happens. CPU use is 0%, so obviously the system isat rest.. Opera exhibits the same behavior sometimes.

You make want to check if the IDE cable is not shorted out. I had one shortedout on me after I installed a second hard drive. After I replaced the IDE cableit ran fine. All so it may be the CPU or bad ram. If it is the HD that isfailing. You can save you data to the new HD or back up every thing. I usually take them apart and bend up the individual disks with a pair of pliersbefore I dump them. I also smash them with an 8-lb sledge a couple of times forgood measure.
