In the past year, I have tried a number of Linux systems, and I have
enjoyed them all!
The online community has been very helpful, when they could, but I now
understand why folks might shy away from Linux. I have been "searching
with search engines, using the wikis and documentation, using man pages,
frequenting boards like this one and help forums" trying to find a
solution. Successful solutions, to what appear to be everyday problems,
like getting your printer to work, are not available. I can find
numerous examples of my problem, but nothing that works.
In the past few weeks, I have spent uncounted hours trying to get rid of
one non-existent file that locks down my system when attempting to
follow instructions or to download updates or use my printer.
Every suggestion has failed.
I have been able to track down the problem, but not the solution.
I have been there, done that...over and over and over.
Using GDEBI to open the new package hl1650lpr-1.1.1-1.i386.deb (which I
am constantly instructed to reinstall...before I can uninstall
hl1650lpr.... unsuccessfully......because I need to take care of my
problem-phantom file, hl1650lpr...first!) doesn't work. I get the
standard message....."Could not open BLAH BLAH BLAH....The package might
be corrupted or you are not allowed to open the file.
Check the permission of the file."
