From the link you provided, was able to thread thru to the Microsoft's link on
Office 12
www.microsoft.com/office/preview/default.mspx

It looks like the old file formats( Word-.doc, Excel-.xls, Powerpoint-.ppt )
will be replaced by the XML file format.
