Partitions

Date: Dec 18    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 383

Now that my cd works and Im working on the install I see that the
partition setup is different than before.

None of the options are really giving me what I want to see. So...

Im going to use manual.
I need
partition: /, /home, /swap,

Swap was 2294mb from before on sda5 so I thought I would leave that.

I have 30gb of backed up files for home so I thought I would go with
70gb for /home.

How big is /?

Most Linux distros only use a couple of GBs for the OS, but if you plan on
adding lots of applications or fonts then you will need more. If you run VMs you
should change the VM directory to /home/user so that it does not use the root
directory. Most of the time 4 GBs will suffice even if you install lots.

My / is 8 GBs and I still have 5 left after installing lots of programs.
