Installing scripts in the Gimp

I downloaded a script built for Gimp and don't know what to do with it. I have
tried to make sense out of the instructions found on the Gimps on line manual,
as well as looked for instructions I could use in the forum there. I searched
the files at Gimptalk as well.

Questions:

1. Do I need to make a scripts folder?
2 Do I un-comment the last line in the gimprc file?
3. Do I rely on the system to know what the ?? variable in curly brackets is??
4. Another instructions in ubuntu studio guides you to a menu to set the temp
folder and swap folder. Once there I am lost for answers. Where do I put the
path for scripts?

I have both ubuntu studio installed using hardy, as well as 8.10. the gimp on
8.10 fails to have the help files usable, even though they are installed
according to the package manager. I don't care what Flavor of Ubuntu I use to
get this script fu script working, I just want it working.

Any help I can get on installing script fu scripts would be appreciated, Thanks
in advance.
