help requested for Belkin print server installation

Date: Jan 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 607

I just added a Belkin F1UP0301 2-Port USB Print Server to my wired
ethernet network. I have two USB printers and both function with the
Belkin from my two XP PC's. One printer does not have a Linux driver.
The other printer, a HP Deskjet 6122, was dedicated (before addition
of the Belkin) to my Ubuntu Linux PC and functioned; but now it does
not. The Belkin User Manual does not discuss the Linux OS. I have
tried several settings on my Ubuntu Linux PC with limited success;
viz, (1) the Belkin www interface can see the unit; (2) I can print
plain text via ftp, but lose carriage returns (and who knows what else).

I want to be able to use my HP Deskjet 6122 to print through the
Belkin F1UP0301 similarly to what I could do connected direct; that is
as my Open Office, Thunderbird, etc printer. I would appreciate guidance.

Configuring Linux for Belkin USB Print Server--RESOLVED (CORRECTION)

Ubuntu Linux 6.10 (Edgy Eft)
Belkin 2-Port USB Print Server (F1UP0301)
HP Deskjet 6122 (driver previously installed and working with direct
USB connection)

From the Ubuntu menu bar click on "System", then "Administration",
then "Printing". In the "Printers" box right-click the printer
desired and then click on "Properties" from the menu that shows up
after several seconds. Select the "Connection" tab, select the
"Network Printer" option and select "HP Jet Direct". In the boxes
that appear put the Print Server IP address (e. g., 192.168.2.5) in
the "Host" box and "9100" or "9101" in the Port box (depending whether
it is printer 1 or printer 2 that you want). Click "Close" on all
just opened boxes and you should be ready to go.

This is my adaptation of information contained in chapter "VI. CUPS
Connections" of _Tutorial on CUPS and Foomatic_ from the
Linux-Kongress 2002, Cologne/Germany. Today it is available at,
www.linuxprinting.org/.../.
