Understanding the Ubuntu...

Is it standard to mix KDE and GNOME?

Like GtK, k3b, and have them both running simultaneously? or is that
perhaps what the crashes might be from?

They apps can run under either desktop flavor. It is still and linux program.

i installed kubuntu on ubuntu but i use gnome with all kde programs like k3b
amarok kaffein etc. without any problems. Before installing kubuntu on ubuntu,
kde programs were not working properly.
