No Shutdown button on shutdown menu

Date: Jan 03    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 493

Have a peculiar problem on my laptop. It "lost" its Shutdown button on
the Shutdown menu. All the others are there (hibernate, restart, etc),
respaced to fit the lack of a Shutdown icon. I've been forcing a close
with Ctrl-Alt-F1, logging in, then "sudo shutdown -h now," but that gets
old. How did I lose it and/or (more importantly) how can I get it back?
I uninstalled the applet from the toolbar and reinstalled, but it came
back without the Shutdown button. What's going on?

Did you try right clicking and choosing Add to Panel and then
selecting the Shut Down Button?

Did you install XGL?

There is a posting on the Ubuntu forums concerning XGL and a problem
with the restart/shutdown options disappearing.

Here's the link the posting:

I did try removing and readding to panel, but the
button that was readded was also defective, missing shutdown. I'll
check XGL solution next. I don't remember having added XGL, but could be.
