when making a USB startup disk

Date: Nov 29    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 594

Does anyone know if the image of a startup disk or USB image has all the
updates installed if the Update manager was run first.

The reason? I am using an old USB to install linux on a machine and in
the past I have had to run update manager after the install with a very
long download involved with the process. If I make a new image can I
avoid the long update process.

No. The updates can start to show up even a day after release because the
final release is usually finalised up to a week in advance of the release
date.

You can create your own image of many distros using something like
Reconstructor or Remastersys. Just install a distribution, do all of the
updates and then create an ISO image from your computer using either
application.

I have not taken the time yet to do the job but I am sure that it will
save some serious time in the future.
