Keyboard and Mouse Issues

Date: Jan 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 414

Rather than buy a new computer for dedicated use
of Ubuntu, I now plan to set up a dual boot (XP-2 and Ubuntu). A
concern. Right now I have installed on my XP Computer, a Logitech
Cordless Desktop LX710 Laser Keyboard and Mouse that use special
installed windows software to function.
I checked a Logitech forum about the possible availability of Linux
drivers for my Cordless Keyboard and Mouse which operates out of a USB
port. It seems that Logitech is not open source friendly. As this
series of posts on the Logitech forum seems to indicate. See link

Should I plan, then, on switching to a regular wired keyboard and
mouse that connects to the usual computer sockets for mouse and
keyboard, when I boot to Ubuntu?

I too am a newbie to Ubuntu. I too have Logitech keyboard and mouse.
The original wireless keyboard and mouse worked right from the start
with no searching for drivers or anything else. Since then the mouse
died of over use so I replace it with a logitech optical mouse (same
keyboard) with a usb connection (actually this was made for a laptop).
The mouse worked like it was original equipment on Ubuntu, however WinXp
grumbled for a few minutes until it accepted it.

My Logitech wireless k'board & mouse " Cordless Internet Pro" have
always been recognised on installation. Don't forget you may have to
press 'NUM LOCK' for the extended keypad to function but then it seems
to be remembered. G.L with Ubuntu you'll enjoy it, and learn some too!
