Formatting question.

I have a hard drive that I put into an external HD enclosure. It has Jaunty on
it at the moment, and I'm trying to clear the drive. I can't seem to do it on my
Ubuntu box, as it says I don't have the permissions necessary to do so, and I
can't even get it to show up on a Windows box (not too surprising, really, now
that I think about it). So, my question is this: How in bloody... do I clear the
drive?

Have you tried Gparted?...............

In a fit of logical deduction, I reasoned that if the local library is running
Ubuntu, they should have access to someone who knows Ubuntu. So, following that
line of thought, I went to the library, where I was proven right. He told me
about gparted, and I have since used it with ultra-happy results.

Sudo apt-get install gparted.

It should get the job done.

gparted should do the job. If you boot in the Live CD you will likely
have less trouble. The top right window lists the hard drives on your
system. Make sure the drive is unmounted with any swap partitions turned
off then delete everything. Only thing left will be to format using the
add Icon and selecting the formatting type you desire.
