granting permissions

Date: Jan 07    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 495

I feel sort of dumb asking this question, it seems that I should know
the answer but I don't.

The other day I added files to my wife's USB thumb drive with no
problems. But today it is telling me that I don't have permission to
write to it.

I'm not quite sure of what I need to do. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. And thank you in advance. I have found that you are a
great bunch of guys/gals who have a heart to help us dummies.

sudo chown (username) (file name)
See if that helps.

She has one with built in security and it probably needs a password. Do
you know what she did no first use.

My wife uses windows exclusively so I know there are no permissions on
her USB drive. I used it a week prior and added some files to it with
no permissions needed. But that day it was asking for permissions and
telling me that it was my USB drive but that I did not have the
permissions. After I rebooted, I tried it again and then it is worked
ok without asking for permissions. Gremlins, I suppose!
