free database for java

Asked By: Richard    Date: Jan 27    Category: Java    Views: 695

I'm looking for free database for java.
what database do you think is good and simple?

I've try:
cloudscape (not really free)
mysql (need license for production)
postgresql
mckoi

I like postgresql but it can't run on windows, thus limiting the portability
issue.
I think mckoi is good, but I also want to know your recommendations.

I don't think your assesment of the mysql licensing is correct. My
understanding is
it is available for free  under the GPL license  and can be used for production
work.
Please note that I am not a licensing expert and you may wish to do your own
research.

With that said 90% of people I know who want a free database  have chosen mysql
and
like it.

Yes I guess you right. I've check mysql license  myself, it's under GPL.
I've been told by a friend before that it's not free  in production but
had never check it myself.

try Firebird, I use and it is quite good  and 100% free  (open source, it is
the open versio of Interbase, now it is in his 1.5 version):
