My old printer (HP PSC 1410) has just died and i need to replace it, Can
anyone recommend a good cheep printer that works ok with kubuntu 10.04.

I mostly use it for printing documents with the occasional picture, i have
been looking at the new HP photosmart wireless B110 as it is on offer at the
moment.

Has anyone had any experience of this printer? or anything similar?

Almost any HP printer will work. I use an HP D1660. Kubuntu pick it up the
moment I cut it on.I did not have to do any thing to get Kubuntu to see it.

I have had no problems with Ubuntu 11.04 detecting either my Epson
S20 or my DX7400 Printer/Scanner,Epson also include Linux Drivers for their
range of printers.

I have an HP Officerjet 4500 Wireless All-In-One. Eithernet, USB and
wireless work in both Windose and Ubuntu. Print, scan and copy also
work on both OS. The auto two-sided printing in Ubuntu doesn't work.
First I print the ODD pages, reshuffle all the pages, putting first
page face up, third page next in order face up and so on, and print
the EVEN pages. In Windows the software takes care of all of that. Fax
I have not tried. The auto two-sided printing is the only problem I
have with it.

I would think all HP ink-jet printers would work with Ubuntu, lasers I
have no experience with on Linux.

Some places have a 30 money back guarantee, if it don't work return it
and get another one or your money back.

Printing with the Linux OS is dealt with by CUPS =Common Unix Printing
System (initiated by Apple Inc)
Admin of CUPS is through http://localhost:631/
To see which printers are known to CUPS see :
http://www.openprinting.org/printers
Personal experience is that HP and Epson printers work with CUPS but the
list in the above web site show many more makes/types .
Canon did not support Linux ,but it is rumoured they do now
To my knowledge Lexmark printer are to be avoided for Linux OS printing.
BTW : CUPS package is installed with most if not all distros.

This was true in the past. I have been using a combo of Brother, HP, and
Lexmark laser printers in the home office. They are all plug and play for
basic printing. They duplex with minor setting changes. These models for
sure work, HP CP 20225, Brother HL 5250, and Lexmark C 543.

I was always confident that HP printers work under kubuntu, i have had no
problems with the current HP (until it died), I was just a little worried
about the support for the wifi printers.
As this printer is on offer at Argos for £39.99, it sounds like a good deal so
i have reserved one.
