Advice for jump-starting use of XML-RPC

I have undertaken to use a new web service by WordTracker offering an
API through Perl XML-RPC.
WordTracker offers a Perl XML-RPC tutorial at
http://help.wordtracker.com/docs/api/ch03s03.html
I need, however, to access this service from Excel/VBA.
Other than inching my way through this new uncharted land, (at least on
my maps), can anybody propose advice, or reference to an example?
