Acer Aspire 7720

Date: Dec 14    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 461

I'm looking towards purchasing the following laptop from PC World :-
*http://tinyurl.com/5gd485

*I'm intending to install Ubuntu 8.10 on it (possibly dual boot) - and was
wondering if anyone has any experience with this laptop? Or knows of any
issues I'm likely to encounter?

I need for wifi to work (obviously!) and I'm aware that most laptops have
linux issues with the webcams?

Don't want to pay out £600 to find out it's pretty much useless with
linux...

Mine is an Aspire 5570Z. I tried 8.04 and 8.10. I couldn’t get the wireless
network to work. I worked on it for a few days and then gave up.

I installed Mandriva 2009. Everything worked for a while. It went unstable,
I reloaded Mandriva again. No wireless this time.

You should Google “Acer Aspire 7720 ubuntu”. There is a lot of info. It
looks like that isn’t an issue on that model.

I've installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my Acer 7720, as a dual boot. No real
problems. Wi-fi works OK but I haven't tried the web cam. I seem to
have more problems getting used to VISTA :-(

BTW got mine from Amazon UK, you might find prices lower. The 7720
comes with many different specs. Mine has 2GB ram & 120 GB HD.
