Is the sound card on the motherboard or a PCI card? I ask because I had to go in
the BIOS and turn off the onboard sound card to get sound working. I found out
my onboard sound card stopped working by troubleshooting with Puppy Linux, since
it has multiple sound card tool to test the speakers, the first one had went bad
and it was the cure to my problem.
Sometimes it can be hardware...
