Question Answered By: Adah Miller   on Jan 11

I know that some people are following Android tablets. I read that
Android is being what some people are calling "forked". There will
Android 3 for tablets called Honeycomb and Android 2.3 for smartphones
called Gingerbread. They are coming out about the same time. This is
causing a bit of buzz, but already Android 3 tablets are showing up. I
read about the Nook Color today from B&N. Yesterday another vendor was
showing one off. So things seem to be taking off. No word on when they
go retail or whether older Android 1.9, 2.1 and 2.2 tablets will be
upgradeable. Google plans for that to be the case, but I am not sure
whether OEMs will make it available. There is also some suggestion
that the two forks will be merged at some point. Google is not calling
it a fork, but analysts are.

This is only info and only for the interested. It is not meant to
spark discussion about whether it is a fork or not or whether Android
is going to make the transition to tablet. It is just to show that
things are heating up.
