problems with database connection on a linux tomcat server

Try these to settings  for hibernate

idleConnectionTestPeriod=3600
automaticTestTable=TBL_TEST

I think it would salve your problem
the thing is our application is using spring 2 hibernate  3.2 and mysql
5.0.22 and is working really good
