Can't Recover From Screensaver

Date: Dec 27    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 604

The system is a Toshiba Satellite running 7.10. For a while (?under
7.04?) when the system went into screen saver mode (blank screen), I
could not recover unless I pressed Fn+F6 to change the screen
brightness. Then, (?under 7.10?) it started working correctly and any
keypress would restore the display. Yesterday, I installed some Gnome
upgrades (from the updates notification) and now, when my system goes
into screen saver mode, I cannot recover without rebooting.

Can anyone offer a suggestion?

You are not alone Ed. I did a fresh server install yesterday and
installed ubuntu-desktop and ended up with the same issue. I was also
having issues with all applications crashing after the server had been
running for just a short period of time.
