virus detected

Date: Nov 26    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 437

I was googling for a wallpaper copyright site
when windows defender reportedin a Windows Security Al;ert
that it had detected Spyware and was ready to remove them,
and prompted me to download antivirus software,
clicking [Remove All] asked me to download SecurityScanner.exe.

It was very convincing.

But as my computer was running Ubuntu Linux
I knew that it was a very nasty program!

When I try to run such garbage in Wine I always get disappointed by error
messages. I tried lots of these for fun. None worked in Wine.

Yes, it is. What some people don't know is SecurityScanner is the spyware.

Oh the fun one is Clean My PC. I went to it because I run Linux. It said there
is some virus's and need to DL their program to clean it up. Of course it was an
exe file.

The online scan is even funnier. They find a lot of nasty things on my C
drive, which does not exist. They also identify my OS as Windows XP.

Now I'm gonna have to give that a try and get a screen capture.

I went to one and had the biggest laugh. It said Linux was the virus and to
run their program to clean my computer of it.
I had Puppy Linux install at that time. I was trying many dist to find the
one I like. Have you try Puppy since they went to Ubunt as the dist?
