If I end up moving to anoher OS will the virtual machines I made in ubuntu stillwork elsewhere?
Yes you can just drag them to another folder. Then when you install Vbox orVMware you need to create a new machine, but you link it to the old vdi filewhich should be copied to your .VirtualBox/VDI folder.
