Using Ubuntu to find drivers

Date: Dec 26    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 448

Is it possible to install Ubuntu in a Sony PCG-SR33 and then use the
installation to discover the type of audio card it has installed? I
need to figure this out to complete a repair I am doing on this unit in
which the customer wants Windows 2k pro installed in. Sony has never
developed the audio or Video drivers for this unit which originally had
ME installed, and the tech I chatted with had the amazing advice that
what I should do was book mark the driver download page so I can check
back periodically to see if they have become available. I have not been
able to find the driver by Googleing it or reading the discussions on
some of the forums, so it looks like I am on my own if I want to get the
sound working on this unit with Windows 2k installed.

I will try using the CD as a live and see if it works. In the Ubie forums there
was only 2 post for this model. If it works using the CD in live mode, most
likely it is going to work at the install. May have a issue with the vid card.

Why not just use the Live CD? No installation is necessary. From a terminal use:
sudo lshw
