Thin Clients

Date: Dec 11    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 371

The Boys & Girls Club has contacted me about building them a computer
lab. They were trying to raise grants to get new hardware for the Vista
Home License Microsoft was donating. At the meeting one of the board
members showed something from I think Microsoft that is similar to this:

http://www.omni-ts.com/linux-desktop/

Its thin client computing. The above I researched about a year ago but
it uses SUSE and that is not what my client wanted.

I show the B&GC ubuntu education version which is EXACTLY !!! what they
want. But Im still dealing with a hardware issue. So Im looking again
and thin clients.

This lab is very simple: help kids with their home work, some drawing
programs, web browser, IM, office apps.. etc.

If anyone has done something like this I would love your input.
If you already know of some good articles from people who have set this
up - would appreciate those too.

I have read a lot about these thin clients and there are so
many different answers to simple questions - there seems to be no base
line. What I think Im going to do is just use some computers donated to
them by a bank and install ubuntu on them and go from there. Its not at
all ideal but- Ill have to make it work
