Can anyone tell me if there are such things as "canned" Java
utilities (1) for accessing client-side disk files and (2) for
performing FTP uploads via calls from JavaScript functions?

I can't believe that all I can do is cut-and-paste because I'm
being "protected" by Big Brother from using my own computer to
maintain my own website!
