I am normally a rather prudent, cautious sort of person, but in a "Here, hold my
beer and watch this" moment, I decided to load Natty (AMD 64) on my laptop. Bad
decision. It hosed my system so badly that I had difficulty re-installing 10.04
-64. I had assumed that being this close to release, the beta version would be
pretty good. Not so. In this ole boy's opinion, these folks aren't ready for
prime time (by a long shot)! Mayhaps I had too much (or too little) mental
lubrication).
I knew I needed the Nvidia and Broadcom restricted drivers, but from the get-go,
the video looked like it was being projected on some partially-opened venetian
blinds, and the system crashed long before it got to loading the Broadcomm
drivers.
It took a bit of fiddling with the 10.04 install to get it back to where it was
before the 11.04 trial. I think I'll wait for the official release (and maybe
order a Kubuntu disc).
