Canonical decides what is stable and ready for wide distribution. Obviously
not everything can be put in the repositories - yet. Probably some day Libre
Office will make the cut. I've used it for a couple of months and to me its
virtually indistinguishable from Open Office.

From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice

"On 28 September 2010, some members of the
OpenOffice.orgen.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org>Project
formed a new group called The Document Foundation and made available
a rebranded fork of OpenOffice.org, which they dubbed LibreOffice. The fork
was created over fears that Oracle
Corporationen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oracle_Corporation>,
after buying out the project's former sponsor Sun
Microsystemshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Microsystems>,
would discontinue OpenOffice.org as it had done with
OpenSolarishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSolaris>.
It was hoped that the LibreOffice name would be provisional, as Oracle was
invited to become a member of the Document Foundation, and was asked to
donate the OpenOffice.org brand to the
project.[2]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice#cite_note-1>

Oracle rejected the project and demanded that all members of the
OpenOffice.org Community Council involved with The Document Foundation step
down from the Council, citing a conflict of
interest.[3]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice#cite_note-ArsTechnica1010-\

The Go-oo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go-oo> project was discontinued in
favour of
LibreOffice.[4]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice#cite_note-3>Improvement\

made by the project are being merged into LibreOffice.
Improvements made in other forks are expected to be incorporated into
LibreOffice as well.[5]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice#cite_note-4>

As a show of support when the project was first announced
Canonicalhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canonical_Ltd.>,
Novell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novell> and Red
Hathttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hat>indicated that they would
include LibreOffice in the next versions of their operating

With that last sentence it looks like LO most likely be in Ubuntu 11.04.
Probably LO was not in 10.10 because it may not have been available or the
stability of it could not be checked in time. May be LO 1.0 was alphas, 2.0
betas and 3.0 ready for primetime. Seems like they came a long way in 3 or 4
months. May be the number represents the month after September the release
was make. Anyway, looks like OpenOffice will become a thing of the past.
Lastly, speaking of our screwed up media, Charlie Sheen, 47, is all over the
news because he's a celebrity drug addict. While Andrew Wilfahrt, 31, Brian
Tabada, 21, Rudolph Hizon, 22, and Chauncy May, 25, are all soldiers who
gave their lives this week with no media mention. May they rest in peace.

The announcement that Canonical would back LibreOffice came after 10.10 was
released. It will be in 11.04 as you say.

I don't much appreciate the political ending of your post. Nobody gives
their life. It was stolen from them. It is a pointless waste of humanity and
paying homage to it does nothing to end war and prevent more lives lost. I
am saddened that these people died, but also by all of the innocent
civilians who are killed by acts of war by misguided people who run the
country and the war industry. I agree about Charlie Sheen getting more press
than he deserves. Eulogising the dead is good but this is not the time or
place.

(If this does not make it by the censors then I wonder why yours did as it
offends me as much as my comments may offend apologists for the messed up
world situation.)

As of 11.04 they will switch to LibreOffice. You can install it now via PPA.
If you use the regular repos then you will have to wait for Natty. There is
little difference except branding at this point.
