I'm gonna use a post that I wrote to another list.

Do you think that THIS MONITOR:

www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/product_detail/
RK282AAR%2523ABA?

Would fit the computer that I describe BELOW?

Graphics: Intel 950 Graphics Media Accelerator

Sound: Realtek ALC 662 4 Channel Audio

Processor: Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13 GHz FSB 1066 MHz L2 4 MB

Memory: 2 GB - 2 x 1 GB DDR2 667 MHz

Hard Drive: 250 GB SATA 300 Mbps - 7200 RPM 8 MB Buffer

Ottical Drive: First CD - RW / DVD

Second Optical Drive: CD - RW / DVD

Wireless: 802. 11 bg

Do you think that this will be sufficent to play music, do posts to e-
lists, and personal e-mails, as well as burning music CD's, and
goofing around on 'You Tube', and play good with a wireless router??

That's pretty much what we'd use a computer for.

Could somebody tell me what the numbers on the Core 2 Duo Processor
mean?

Would this computer based on these specs, be a good personal computer
(ughhh, sounds like WINDOWS!!) do you think?

Do they have the same connectors? (VGA / hdmi ....)
If so, then it will work.

You might want to check the supported screen resolutions on both to
see how WELL it will work.

It should work with no problem.
The only hangup may be the sound card and the video. But that's common.
The system your describing sounds pretty good.

I would ask the vendor about the Linux, more specifically Ubuntu, support.
Do they know anyone running Linux? You probably are going a negative but in
a round-about-way you are telling them that folks want Linux and they are
probably loosing sale from the lack there of.

You probably know Dell sales Ubuntu laptops.

A nice thing to have when you are getting a compute without Linux support is
a second harddrive. One for Windows and one for Linux. The Windows HD never
has Linux installed. Then they can't blame Linux for messing up Windows and
voiding your warrenty.

The title of this says it all. System 76 is a Linux-specific vendor.
There will NOT be a problem with the video or sound; they will be
working when he gets them. There are few enough of those vendors
already; let's not try to drive sales AWAY from them.

And there isn't any reason the HP monitor the poster is asking about
shouldn't be detected directly by Ubuntu. It figured out my weird 19"
widescreen 1440 x 900 Viewsonic LCD screen without a blink.
