I am receiving following errors while trying to start the iplanet web
server.

[20/Jun/2006:14:03:24] failure (24635): [LS ls1] [0.0.0.0:80] Error
receiving FD from watchdog (Permission denied)
[20/Jun/2006:14:03:24] failure (24635): 1 listen sockets could not be
created
[20/Jun/2006:14:03:24] failure (24635): The new configuration was
rejected, rolling back
[20/Jun/2006:14:03:24] info (24635): Rolled back to the previous
configuration
[20/Jun/2006:14:03:24] failure (24635): Failed to set configuration

What can be the cause and resolution for this.

I haven't ever used iPlanet but in most operating systems you need to have
administrator permission to open a socket in a port under 1024.
Considering that yours is 80 and you get permission error, this might be
the problem for you too.

Consider starting  up server  with root permission or use PAT/Proxy.
