crashing Excel 2000 due to length of XLA file?

Asked By: Lucas    Date: Jan 25    Category: MS Office    Views: 846

I get sometimes a crashing Excel and sometimes (but only sometimes)
this error message (and remember in between it just works fine!):
"
---------------------------
EXCEL.EXE - Application Error
---------------------------
The instruction at "0x7c93426d" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
"

It looks the longer I make my xla file, the more this happens.
Sometimes no crash happens with the same parameter of the spreadsheet.
Sometimes I just can't get the spreadshseet to be calcualted.
Again it looks to be related to the length of my xla file (is now 494
kByte), but not clear how related.

I don't think that illegal calculations are done (because why does it
sometimes also just works?). I am using Excel 2000 9.0.6926 SP-3

Does someone also have this and if there a remedy for this? Tahnsk for
any feedback that might help!! I am willing to investigate anything;-)

Put the number into a Google search box. There are many suggestions but the
one of disabling media file  previews seems the most likely.

How do I do that and where? (in my excel  VBA xla  file I don't use
media files previews of course;-)

It seems that it is a errors created in MANY instances:-( So I have it
using Excel and VBA (within an xla file)). I have looked at many links
(removed a lot of programs that I don't use any more or that wre
isntalled at the time I got the first time these crashing/errors).
No help yet. So if someone has specifci experience with using Excel
2000 9.0.6926 SP-3, XP Pro 2002 SP-2, VBA 6.0 in XLA file  then please
let me know.

Open your browser (Internet explorer for example)
In the address bar type google.com
Press enter
When the Google site comes up, in the search box in the centre of the screen
type 0x7c93426d
Press enter

Then click the link under the first link which is
Windows Explorer keeps closing.

Scroll down to the third message and this will tell you what to try first.

Tried, but still crashing Excel. As said, many of these hints are not
related to my problem.

For instance the one you point to is about:
"The reason for your crash is a problem with media previews in
explorer (explorer calculates a thumbnail view of an image or the
first frame of a video file). By disabling this feature (which is
useless anyway) explorer stops crashing."
But I am not using explorer (but Excel with VBA in xla) and I am not
using media previews...

As said, it looks that the error I got is also found in many other
instances, that is why I hope someone has really experience with
Excel, VBA and xla  and this error and how to solve it.

I googled the web, but could not find a link with these three things
in it.
Of course I tried others things that perhaps might do it (like yours
and many others things; I removed several programs from my computer
but no real help), did hijackthis (but can't really interpreate the
results. It does not look bad...

But perhaps someone can help me if something is wrong (see below).

Some advice is to clean my disk and install all applications. That are
nice advices of course (I see too many of them; even for simpler
problems), so I hope there is a less dramatic method available.
