I am absolutely sure that RDS is to blame for this. Now I have Windows XP,
Mandriva Linux, gOS and Ubuntu Linux installed on my PC and the Internet is
working fully only under Windows. Under Mandriva it cannot connect to most of
the sites. Sometimes I even have problems using Yahoo Mail. Under Ubuntu it
connects but cannot find any server. Under gOS I do not know what happens, but
it does not load any pages, either.
The Internet service from RDS is very cheap but they do not provide any
technical support. Many others in Romania and also in Cluj had problems with the
Internet under Linux. I was surprised to read all those complaints on many
forums. And I was surprised to find so many Linux users knowing that so many
Romanians use Windows and Office illegally...
The equipment for the Internet does not belong to me, we have it in custody
from RDS. At the computer shops there are special routers for Linux (if I
understood well) but I am afraid of buying it in case they will not work in our
situation. However, they are not very expensive, about 18 Euro.
