Dual-boot Edbuntu 8.10 LTSP and Windows XP. I print well from inside
Windows but in Ubuntu the hasn't been set up yet. Yet I know Open
Office recognizes the printer because it is listed together with
print-to-PDF in a window in the Open Office print command. I assume
that is because I made sure the printer was connected and switched on
when I installed Edubuntu.

But Linux itself seems not to recognize the printer. There is probably
a simple answer for this, I'm just missing it.

It needs to have the printer properly installed in the os so it can be
written to. Some printers are just a pita to get going my canon pixma ip1200
being one of them if I put it on a windows machine and network to it I can
sort of use it, however I have had no luck with it directly connected to the
linux machine.

will hopefully give you the info you need to get that part of it working
properly. Lists mine as a paperweight
