run application with Alt+F2

how can add some applications so that I can run them by typing their name in the
box that shows up when I press Alt+F2?

The normal way to add apps is using the Software Management utility,
apt-get install or Synaptic. In almost all cases the apps has a GUI
and is found on the menu system. If you know the name of the
executable you can run it by Alt+F2 - not recommended for beginners.
