I've been using xchat-gnome for 2/3 yrs now. When i added a channel
recently on auto login it chopped off the 'port' leaving the channel
short of the last four letters. Thinking it was a problem with
xchat-gnome i thought i'd try xchat [although i think the gnome
version is simply a different front end?].

I went to Network list--the channel 3rd option Edit where one can
enter in the channel by text. This still didn't work on auto login.
Then i changed the order of the list and that was fine... but chopped
off the last four letters of another channel!

It would seem to be a bug - i was wondering if anyone else had had
this problem. Solution: make sure you have a dud channel at the end of
the list!!!

I quite liked xchat for a couple of features which konversation [that
was fine which i've now started using] doesn't have.

The new client for KDE is called Quassel. http://quassel-irc.org/

It is quite full featured and worth a look. It is in the repos.
