Fix the broken packages

Date: Dec 17    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 469

I was uninstalling all KDE from my Ubu
8.04, and Synaptics started uninstalling things that it should not
have been uninstalling... Since there was no cancel, I turned off the
CPU at about 1/5 of the removal. When I turned it back on, all I
could get was the Terminal as my desktop, and since I couldn't figure
out the commands, even with -h, nothing worked to fix the broken
packages. So, I had to give up the 3 days of my Ubu building, and
went to install the PCLinuxOS2007, and I'm still quite a bit freaked
out! I'd like to install Ubu back on top, or next to this, but I
don't think I can take anymore! If anyone feels up to suggesting,
it's always appreciated... enlightenevolution

You can try:
login (to login)
then to start X by typing: startx

If x fails to start and you are in the terminal, you can try:sudo
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Failing this you can try to reinstall kubuntu from apt as follows:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

This should get you back to where you were before you began to remove kubuntu.

I am wondering why you were removing Kubuntu. Do you have another desktop
installed? If you do, then you should be able to avoid reinstalling Kubuntu and
startx after you reconfigure xserver-xorg.
