System Check Failed

Date: Dec 27    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 436

I recently moved to Ubuntu 8.04, everything seems to go fine,
now there is a problem. My system says that it needs to check hard
disk, when it checks the check fails at 24% and it asks me to do fcsk
manually. When I type fcsk it says the command is not found.

Some of my folders in Music directory are automatically getting
locked. I had this same problem before (7.04). Is there any solution?
Could it be a fault / bad sector in hard disk?

I am great fan of Ubuntu and don't want to miss it.

I had the same problem on my computer. I had to use suddo to get into fcsk. It
rearranged several configeration files. I am sorry to say it was my hard drive.
It blocked off half my hard drive. may be ts not that bad on yours. I am still
using mine, but its not working to good. It needs replaced.

I hope you back up back all your files. Please type in
sudu fsck
enter your pass word and see if that cleans it up.
Before any up grade you need to disable any 3rd party repos or you are going to
get get hosed with probelms,

You typed the wrong command. That is why it tells you command not found. You need
fsck. Note the spelling. It stands for file system check. You need to do this
as root. If it stops you at boot up you can input your password and run the
command. For how to use the command, try:
beginlinux.com/.../53-touble\
shooting/354-fschk or http://linux.die.net/man/8/fsck.
Ctrl-D will resume.

Running it on a mounted file system will damage it though so beware!!
